** Funding Available for Private Property Fire Protection **

This time of year, because of the Fire Danger, many people might be thinking of what they could do to minimize the fire danger on their property, i.e. setting up a defensible space around their homes.  The Village of Taos Ski Valley would like to encourage our citizens to consider setting up a defensible space, or possibly just clearing all dead and down trees from your property.  There is funding available through the Taos Soil & Water Conservation District (Taos SWCD) to help private property owners set up a defensible space program.  If you’re interested, the deadline for applications is June 28^th.  Once the cost sharing funds are awarded/allocated, Taos SWCD will set up a site visit towards the end of July to make recommendations on what needs to be cleared or cleaned up.  The Taos SWCD will pay for up to 85% of the cost of cutting down and/or removing possible fuel sources from your property.
