II. Welcome to Four New Members of the EMS Department
Dave Wallace welcomed the new members to the EMS Volunteer Department for the Village of Taos Ski Valley. They are Aline Robertson, Lincoln Landis, Dawn Boulware, and Bryan Wallace. Carl Gilmore phoned Dave and said the certificates are out in the mail for these new comers. Dave reminded them to make copies of their certificates and CPR cards and get them to Kathy Bennett for the files.
III. General Announcements
A. NIMS Certifications
Dave said at least 80% of the EMS Staff needs to comply with the NIMS requirements in order to get Federal funding, i.e., classes 700 and 100. These can be taken on-line. Kathy also needs copies of these certificates as personnel take the exams.
Dave said the EMS Ground Ambulance is doing an EMS Table Top Drill training course; one fixed wing and 2 helicopters. All patients must be at the hospital within 40 minutes. He said to think about what to do when you have an MCI. The first on scene medical unit is in charge. Without ISC it will not work. Triage is critical. Quigley talked about Kevin the helicopter pilot in Santa Fe. Mary Mortimer said numbers are in the disaster plan. It was stated that a fixed wing can fly where a helicopter can not. Dave talked about 1-800 MEDLIFT; describing the incident and they will determine if they can come up or not. Consider mechanism of injury. Taos Auto Electric will train with rescue tools in extrication; this will be scheduled. Tuesdays seemed to be best for people interested in the corse. Let Dave now when and he can set up two courses if needed.
Dave said he was part of the Memorial Day IC System in Red River; a multi-day event. He said it was great experience and said this will be a training exercise for anyone who would like to do it.
C. August
15th Music Festival
Dave said the music festival is a great opportunity to implement the ICS system for one day. 1500 to 3,000 people are expected. The Chamber is selling tickets. We will know by mid-July how many tickets have been sold. Quigley said he may have the clinic open during the event; said it’s in the budget. The promoters are caping tickets at 5,000.
Dave wanted to know what was the best day for everyone for extrication classes. Many people voted on Tuesday. Let Dave know and he will set up two classes.
The EMS Department received a $1,000 donation. Discussion followed on how best to spend the money. A new Wheel Litter was discussed. Talk lead to the subject of matching funds.
F. Miscellaneous
Dave announced that Gene Mortimer is stepping down as Fire Chief at the end of the month. Discussion was held on the need to revisit the schedule. The vehicle has been moved to the fire house and all supplies are now in the fire house. Restocking is more efficient. Looking at a cascade system. Dave talked about the key pad lock at the fire house door. Lift evacuation practice will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday per Maureen.
Dr. Quigley Peterson welcomed the new group to the EMS Department. He praised their energy and thought it was great. Hepititis shots are necessary for this group; a series of three shots; Quigley said he would do the first one after the meeting. Quigley talked about oral fentenal being a special skill in the Ski Valley sometime in the next two years.
Dr. Peterson reviewed a run review involving a 6 y/o male who fell off a 2 foot stump and had injuries to his face, lip and a possible broken tooth. Dr. Peterson spoke at length about mechanism of injury, questions to ask, scene size-up, and asked lots of questions about the call. Quigley spent a lot of time reviewing this call, including dealing with the parents; they are patients too. Quigley also talked about the helicopter rescue in Santa Fe.
V. Announcement of date/time/place for
the next meeting
The next meeting of the EMS Department is to be determined, but it will probably be sometime after July 23, 2009.
