 VTSV EMS MEETING MINUTES

EDELWEISS CONFERENCE ROOM

TAOS SKI VALLEY, NEW MEXICO

TUESDAY JANUARY 13, 2009, 5:00 P.M.

             I.      CALL TO ORDER

Public Safety Director, Dave Wallace, called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m., in the Edelweiss Lodge Conference Center.

             II.      ATTENDEES

EMS Members in attendance were Neal King, Kathy Bennett, Al Johnson, Steve Bishop, Beth Bubernak, Gene Mortimer, Mary Mortimer, Chris Stagg, Erika Gunter, and Alejandro Blake.

III.      NEW BUSINESS AND PENDING ISSUES

A.            Possible EMS Fundraiser

Dave spoke about past fundraisers at Tim’s Stray Dog and discussion was held as to how to do it this year.  Kathy said she would contact the new owners of Tim’s to see if they would agree to host a fundraiser.  If not, Hano said perhaps the Martini Tree would work.  Kathy said she would contact Quigley to see what evening he would be available in February to be the bartender; that has been the “draw” at the previous fundraisers.

B.                  Yearly EMS Grant Application to the State of New Mexico

Dave said he has submitted the Grant application to the State for money to support the EMS Department.  He further stated that the EMS Bureau wants all run reviews submitted electronically in the future.  Kathy said she would check to see how this is to be done.

                C.            EMS Rescue Act

Dave Wallace distributed a memo from John Udell, President EMS Region I EMS and Trauma Foundation.  As money is tight for EMS, they are submitting an EMS Resue Act which may involve a tax on Liquor to help fund the EMS Departments around the State.  Two events are scheduled for the Legislature to try to help fund this act.

D.            Miscellaneous

Dave talked about the Carbon Monoxide poisoning incident that occurred this month at the Streamside Suites.  He said Taos county didn’t do a very good job; didn’t give the patients Oxygen.  VTSV EMS Department found them another place to stay.  Discussion was held on whether or not we can mandate Carbon Monoxide detectors in rental units.  Dave demoed a Carbon Monoxide monitor that he said we will keep in the Ambulance instead of a fire truck.  Dave further talked about a female patient at the Snakedance, who turned out to have a highly contageous viral infection.  Several people also came in contact with this infection and Quigley didn’t make today’s EMS meeting because he still had patients on IV’s for dehydration from this viral infection.

Dave said a new schedule is needed as Steve Bishop will not be here on his assigned evenings for coverage.  Chris Stagg said he would cover Monday nights; Kathy with Steve Bishop on Thursdays, and Erika and Neal on Wednesdays.

VI.           ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE DATE, TIME & PLACE OF THE NEXT EMS MEETING

The next meeting of the EMS Department is to be determined.
