III.
NEW BUSINESS
AND PENDING ISSUES
A. EMS Fundraiser
Dave spoke about a possible fundraiser at The Stray Dog. Kathy Bennett said she had checked with Dr. Peterson about a date and March 5th would work. Kathy said she would get back to the Stray Dog with this date and start working on donations for a raffle. Dr. Peterson said his servicer license has expired; he can still mix drinks but just can’t serve them.
Dave said he will be moving the ambulance into the main firestation and moving the meds from the clinic to the main firestation. This will be in about 2-3 weeks. The Green Fire truck will be moved to the Kachina substation. Dave said he’d talk to Mickey about the old yellow truck. Dave said the temperature control and having everything all in one place far outweights the inconvenience of traveling a little further to get to the ambulance. The keys will be in the ambulance unit. Dave will install either a lockbox or give out keys to the firehouse.
C. EMS
Runs Electronic Filing
Dave said he is now reporting all runs electronically to the Bureau. Their fiscal year is October thru September and he is up to date with runs filed with the Bureau. Dave said that for electronic use it is necessary to always record the time the call was received, time of arrival on scene, time spent with the patient, and the time the call ended. These four things are very important. One thing he noticed is that B/P vitals are very seldom done. Dave urged all responders to be cognizant of getting all vitals. He said we need to do times, vitals, and a good narrative.
Dave said all First Responders need to be certified with NIMS. All EMS responders need to do Course #100 even though some have done Course #700. Once completed it will be automatically recorded by NIMS. This course is available on-line. We must comply to be eligible for FEMA funding should we need it. There is no deadline so far.
It appears as though five of the Village First Responders are not registered with the NM EMS Bureau. When the first responder course was taught in June of 2007, the University was lax in sending the certificates to Carl and failed to inclose the “bubble registration” forms. So their registration never happened. Carl brought the bubble registration forms to the EMS meeting, but only two if the five responders were present. These two responders have also submitted their paperwork for their renewal to the Bureau. It appears their checks have been cashed even tough they have never by registered in the first place. Carl said he would hand all the rest and would hand carry the necessary paperwork to the Bureau. Kathy supplied Carl with all the paperwork in the five files with up to date CPR cards, refresher courses, copies of original First Responder Class, and CE’s.
F. Run Reviews with Dr. Quigley
Peterson
Dr. Peterson reviewed several runs that occurred since the last meeting. The runs were medical and Dr. Peterson was very informative as to signs, symptoms, and diagnosis. He also emphasized the need for EMT responders to have a patient sign a non-transport refusal form if that is the case.
Carl Gilmore suggested that perhaps ski patrol could file their runs in conjunction with Village EMS runs. He said the EMS Department could get more money if we did this. Dave and Carl will do more research on this, but the consensus was this may not be a good idea.
Dave talked about a Motorcycle Rally to be held in the Village on July 31st and August 1st. He talked about plans to have headliner bands those two days and he said it is possible that there could be as many as 5,000-10,000 people. He requested that as many EMS volunteers as possible be available for those two days.
Neal said that if you need to take the guerney into the Edelweiss to do so from inside the parking garage; its much better for the patient than going through the bar and lobby room.
Dave said for everyone to check the expiration dates on their Epi Kits, as he has a new supply.
VI. ANNOUNCEMENT
OF THE DATE, TIME & PLACE OF THE NEXT EMS MEETING
The next meeting of the EMS Department is to be determined, but it will probably be sometime around March 22, 2009, after spring break.
