ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT

JULY 2010

We spent much of June working on our infrastructure projects, with the majority of time spent dealing with various issues on the water tank and LCI2.  After receiving a request for “immediate mediation” from LCI2, I scheduled one for June 29th.  LCI2 changed their mind, so it was cancelled.  Things have been running a bit more smoothly since I set up the mediation.  They should be working on the first pressure relief valve this week, while their subcontractor puts in the forms for the concrete.  Pioneer Glades is moving along, but we don’t expect the giant culvert to be replaced until later this summer.  We have also been working on straightening the road above Zaps where the hair pin turn is.  Most of the fill has come from the tank site.  After we finish, we will have some land up there that would support a structure, but it is zoned residential.  We should probably think of good ways to use it.  (Employee or low income housing?)

All the employees have been evaluated and new goals have been set for each of them, including the Village Administrator.  We expect Greg Morrow to leave us in late July to head for Mexico by way of Florida.  In early July we’ll look for a replacement.  We have Patrick and Greg Martinez as temporary workers, helping out around the Village.  We have been planning for the Municipal League meeting in September and have the water bottles on site.  We have ordered Village shirts for the employees and elected officials so that they will be easily spotted at the opening night reception here in the valley.  We are getting a good response to our EQR study and should be ready with some numbers by the August meeting.

I have also been working on an agreement with the Town of Taos to take our sludge and wood chips for their compost project.  When they didn’t send a contract, I drew one up and sent it to them, but I still haven’t heard anything.

We had a few interesting things occur with the trees we cut for both the road straightening and the parking lot by the office.  We stored the wood in the treatment plant yard, but someone came and took about a third of it.   It happened on two separate occasions.  On both occasions the gates were locked, so we will be changing many of the Village’s locks.  In July we will start working on the stairwell outside the office.  We’ll also put up a new lighted notice board at the bottom of the stairs for information to the public.

Finally, we met with Ron McLaughlin, who will prepare our preliminary engineering report (of course it is a PER in financing language) for the improvements/replacement of our Wastewater Treatment plant and sewer system upgrades.  We want to be sure to include the costs of assuring that everyone in the Village is online, including Amizette.  I have also been thinking about financing possibilities and hope to get some numbers before the next round of legislative deadlines.  Also, I have tentatively scheduled a meeting with the Forest Service for the morning of July 1, to discuss the Town Site Act land that we may acquire, including the Treatment plant site.  I’ll give you more information at the meeting.
