ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT

January 2011

The stairway is mostly finished.  We’ll have to do some touch-up painting in the spring.  We have mostly finished the tasks for the Village offices and the fire station.  I met with a representative from Senator Udall’s office and talked with her about our Townsite Act requests.  I am awaiting descriptions from the surveyor.  I want to consider going to Washington D.C. to meet with all the members of our delegation to discuss various methods to acquire the necessary land. Since it is all government land, I hope to not have to pay much to acquire what we need without conflicting with the wilderness study area or with The Ski Valley’s plans to upgrade the mountain.

We still don’t have the PER for the waste water plant upgrade.  I want to talk with the state and federal governments about paying for this also.  We are at the top of the water cycle and need to be able to discharge the cleanest water possible.  I have previously had informal talks with members of the Taos Water Plan committee.  They may be supportive, especially if we can come up with a way to hook everyone into the treatment system.  If they see it, the way Don and I see it, as an improvement necessary to discharge the cleanest water, it will greatly assist our plans.  There should be more meetings this month.  Currently the plant is functioning well, but requires close monitoring as the daily flows keep changing the need for different additives.  A new plant with a new system of cleaning the water will greatly help.

As we move through the holiday season, Vanessa and I find ourselves constantly looking at the Personnel Regulations.  We might need to take another look at them since they haven’t been changed in over 10 years.  I have written a few interpretive memoranda concerning the regulations, but it might be a good idea to put together a committee to review the regulations as a package.

As January starts we begin our new method of charging for water and sewer.  The first bill will go out at the end of January.  During the month we will have a meeting with Quick Water, our billing software, representatives to see if we want to stick with that company.  Currently we pay a monthly fee of $207.31 to them to be on call for problems with the software and billings.  I would like to drastically reduce this monthly payment if possible.
