ADMINISTRATOR’S MONTHLY REPORT
JUNE, 2009
Much of May was spent on reviewing files found in the administrator’s office. There were files from Ken Shuey days forward. Many items, such as catalogues from the early 90’s were discarded and many of the remaining files put back into the central file location. One of the goals we have is to re-organize the files into some coherent and logical system. We also will begin the process of digitizing the files for electronic storage and do away with the paper copies. For that process, with the help of the mayor, I have applied for interns from the summer youth employment project. The Federal government pays the salaries of the youths and we get some help.
I also applied for two helpers for the Public Works Department. Their main job will involve raking the pea gravel from the stream side for pick up and recycling. They will also work on the JR Ramming trail. We have funds available to pay for one such employee and the NM Labor Department told us that if we were to pay for one of the workers, they would be more likely to give us one under the Summer Youth program.
Another project that we have been working on is the remodeling of the Administrative offices. My goal is to provide a more professional looking space that meets the needs of the employees and the public. The challenge is, of course to do so with very limited funds. Since with my hire, we were able to save some budgeted money, we will still finish the year under or at budget. The most expense part of the project to re-route the entrance to the employee bathroom. With the moving of plumbing and doors, we expect to be under $2,000. for the entire project. It should be finished within a few weeks.
Also this month, Don, Ann Marie, Rich and I worked on the latest draft of the new zoning ordinance. It is still in P & Z, but we are making headway. One of the latest additions we are suggesting is that during the construction period of a new building, including a new residence, that the building inspector will issue two parking permits for the construction people to park at the site. This will not only encourage car pooling (if only from the parking lots), but will also cut down on the traffic on our roads. Less traffic means less dust. Don, Rich and I also worked on the carbon monoxide ordinance that is to be introduced today.
Finally, I
